NISSEN FUNDOPLICATION MODULE
Surgical Science is proud to offer the first-ever virtual-reality hands-on simulation for Nissen Fundoplication for the Simbionix LAP Mentor.
Ideal for the training of general surgeons, gastrointestinal surgeons, and gastroenterologists, this module with state-of-the-art graphics allows users to practice the key steps of the Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication procedure for treatment of Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), including dissection of peritoneal ligaments, and division of the short gastric vessels. Trainees learn the careful handling of tissue and the prevention of potential complications such as bleeding from various vessels or damage to the esophagus, vagus nerve, crura, stomach and spleen.
Task 1 – Dissection of Peritoneum to Reveal Esophageal Circumference
This task allows for practicing manual incision and dissection skills. Trainees are provided with an opportunity to rehearse the incision of the gastro-hepatic ligament, safe and accurate dissection of the peritoneal ligaments, separation of the esophagus and crura, and release of the esophageal circumference by dissection of the phreno-esophageal ligament.
Task 2 – Division of the Short Gastric Vessels
This task focuses on practicing an accurate and safe dissection of the gastro-splenic ligament, division of the short gastric vessels, and separation of the stomach fundus.
