PERIPHERAL EMBOLIZATION MODULE

Practice A Variety of Embolization Scenarios

This module provides practice on multiple patient anatomies and scenarios requiring embolization, such as renal aneurysm, arterio venous fistula, hypogastric artery embolization (pre-EVAR), Type II (post EVAR) endoleak embolization and GI bleeding. The module provides a selection of common embolization materials such as microcoils and macrocoils and PVA particles, delivered through a microcatheter or an angiographic catheter to the target vessel. The module includes intra-procedural complications such as coil migration, perforations and spasms.

Learning Objectives:

  • To practice performing diagnostic angiography using appropriate oblique projecting to locate target artery takeoff
  • To practice a variety of common embolization scenarios
  • To become familiar with various coils techniques (detachable, non-detachable), shapes and sizing
  • To practice various embolization techniques based on the target coiling location, avoiding coil migration
