TAVI MODULE

TAVI Training

This module provides training for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) procedure for the treatment of calcified aortic valve and aortic valve insufficiency. It allows for practicing the intervention using a femoral or subclavian approach, including the following steps: positioning of a pigtail catheter for angiographic visualization of the aortic root,  identifying the optimal angiographic projection for visualizing the annular plane,  measuring pre and post-procedure pressure gradients, introducing a stiff guidewire into the left ventricle, performing aortic balloon valvuloplasty while using rapid pacing and positioning and deploying an aortic valve bioprosthesis safely and accurately. The module includes a selection of cases with anatomical variations, each provides a different scenario. Possible complications include: access site bleeding, pericardial effusion, bioprosthesis pop-out/slippage, low implantation of the bioprosthesis causing regurgitation and aortic insufficiency.

Learning Objectives:

  • To manage and plan an intervention in a variety of patient anatomies.
  • To learn and practice stepwise TAVI
  • To practice management of complications during TAVI, including left ventricle perforation, bioprosthesis pop out and low bioprosthesis implantation
  • To practice bioprosthesis implantation within a surgical valve
