AF ABLATION MODULE

Are You Ready for Treating Atrial Fibrillation?

This module provides practice of atrial fibrillation (AF) treatment using pulmonary vein isolation. Procedural steps include placement of CS and HIS catheters, left atrial access via the intra-atrial septum by puncturing the Fossa Ovalis, and pulmonary vein isolation using cryoablation or RF ablation techniques.  Patient anatomies in different cases vary in Fossa Ovalis stiffness as well as pulmonary veins anatomy. Life-threatening complications such as pericardial effusion, aortic puncture, and phrenic nerve damage can occur during the case as a result of user actions or triggered by the proctor. The module presents realistic EP signals that allow interpreting the pulmonary vein isolation status in real-time. It simulates live ICE (Intracardiac Echo) using a realistic handle and doppler. The ICE can also be operated using pre-defined views.

Learning Objectives:

  • To practice transseptal puncture technique
  • To practice positioning of a cryoablation balloon
  • To practice pulmonary vein mapping
  • To practice interpretation of pulmonary vein signals to evaluate isolation status
  • To practice management of complications scenarios
