Lower Extremities CTO module

Practice Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO)

This module provides practice for endovascular crossing of chronic total occlusion (CTO) using a dissection re-entry technique in a variety of Common Femoral Artery and Superficial Femoral Artery lesions. This module enables you to choose between an ipsilateral and contralateral (crossover) access approach. The simulated procedural steps include forming a knuckle wire, subintimal dissection using a guide wire and catheter, and using a re-entry device to access the true lumen distal to the occlusion. After passing a guide wire, the trainee can perform angioplasty and stenting to resolve the occlusion.

Learning Objectives:

  • To practice the subintimal dissection technique in the lower limbs
  • To become proficient in using re-entry devices to access the true lumen distal to the occlusion
  • To practice angioplasty balloon and stent deployment for resolving the occlusion
  • To practice handling intra-procedural complications (dissections, perforations)
