Use Case II – Workshops and Hands-On Courses

The 2 day hands-on training course is designed to instruct participants in new techniques and instrumentation in one of the cardiovascular fields. The program includes lectures in the mornings and 1 hour hands-on workshops in the simulation lab in the afternoon, including virtual reality complete procedure simulation.
The CME accredited course may include up to 12 participants, with a faculty of 2 surgeons and skills lab coordinators.
Participants rotate between various simulation stations and have the chance to practice in 20 minute sessions.

Challenges:

  • To perform the administrative tasks of user registration and training assignment efficiently
  • To enable easy access to training tasks and cases
  • To provide an effective educational experience in a short timeframe
  • To offer the learners efficient feedback reports
  • To suggest additional training opportunities

MentorLearn Solution:

  1. The educator may choose from the course library or may design a new course using the relevant available simulation cases and tasks. The skills lab coordinator doesn’t need to be in front of the simulator in order to perform the administrative tasks. Creation of new groups and of user accounts, as well as course assignment, is done from a remote centralized location. Participants may login to the system and access the course from any of the simulators in the center.
  2. To efficiently utilize their time at the simulation center prior to beginning the course, participants login to MentorLearn from any location and independently complete the didactic learning section including online testing to assess cognitive knowledge.
  3. At the simulation center the participants log into MentorLearn and begin training on the simulation tasks assigned to them. Performance feedback reports and learning curves are provided after each simulation task or case.
  4. At the end of the course, the educator debriefs the individuals or class. Since all course data is available remotely in one centralized location, this session may be performed away from the simulators, for example in a meeting room, and may include the course content, the individual feedback reports and group performance reports.
  5. After the course, both the learner and the educator may access the reports remotely from home or office, for continued review and learning.
